    Pinterest And Amazon Affiliate Links

Obviously there are some people complaining about using a "FREE" service to spam their affiliate links. The free social media site pinterest is said to be changing out affiliate links with their own links. Really what do people expect to happen ? This is a totally free site after all and they are allowing you to use them without any form of payment.

Instead of making complaint threads about it why not use smart marketing and laugh about the ones that are complaining. When you make a pin on pinterest instead of posting an affiliate link, why not link it to your blog or your opt-in page ?

As affiliate marketers you should never build up the merchants sites. Build up your own site and create your own opt-in list. From your site or your list then you can promote the affiliate product. This is how many marketers have been teaching to do affiliate marketing for years because the fact is it works.

Re: Pinterest And Amazon Affiliate Links

    Hi Steve,
It seems many are hot under the collar for no reason and we all know how myths get started. Pinterest is using SkimLinks to put affiliate links in some pins and not replacing any links. Wanted to make sure I state that for anyone reading this.

With that said I still stand by my original post - When you make a pin on pinterest instead of posting an affiliate link, why not link it to your blog or your opt-in page ?

I posted that on another forum that had a bunch of people that though they was replacing links also and the response I got was:

That's one of those things I'd probably test before I assumed.

With Pinterest you see an image in the general feed, click on it, get taken to a "pin" page and have to click on it again to go to the website. Of course I'll only go through all that if I'm interested in the details of a product/topic.

What you're suggesting is to add another click to the process before I can really get to what I'm interested in. Perhaps if I'm going to buy a more expensive item I'll want to do research before a purchase. But, if it's a simple purchase all those clicks become tedious.

Plus, if you're using an affiliate link to a site like Amazon it could be more beneficial to play the click through/drop cookie #s game than to worry about optins, etc.
So the natural response I gave was:

I have tested exactly what I posted for years and adding another "click" to the process is how proper affiliate marketing is done. I should know I ran 2 large affiliate programs as the affiliate manager for 2 large companies.

If you place your affiliate link on a site you get "one" chance at that sale. If you link to your own site with valuable information and get them on an opt-in you have unlimited chances. There is a huge difference here and this is one reason why many affiliates never make a decent income.

Instead of trying to sell to your readers you should be engaging with them through magnetic content. Attracting and engaging will benefit your more than trying to distract and sell.

It still amazes me how many people do not get the above.

Re: Pinterest And Amazon Affiliate Links

I think that people are just looking for the quickest way of getting their affiliate link clicked. They are not interested in providing anything of any use, they just want the quick buck. Sending somebody to their site first is probably too much like hard work.

You are right Kim! They are looking for the easy solution and if they can spam another site to do it then they will. Why they complain about Pinterest when they are using it for free is beyond me. These people act like they have money invested in a site that they are spamming themselves.
