The screams ringing through the forums, blogs and discussion sites over the last 12 months tell the message to newbie's loud and clear. There is little point continuing to create content to promote your site because article marketing is dead!
To be fair, at first glance this might be so and you can literally hear the thud of laptops being slammed shut and crackle of keyword lists being screwed up and thrown in the bin in disgust.
Article submission services all over the world are shutting down and even the stalwart of article marketing Ezine articles Dot com has lost the great majority of its traffic.
But why did this happen? After all, people were just doing as they were told. Building buyer mentality keyword lists, writing articles based on those keywords, rewriting and spinning those articles to create at least 40% unique content, submitting these spin offs to the top 10 article directories and then sending them off through mass article submission services. It had worked for years, what happened?
All this chaos and commotion is because of a little thing called Panda, the very name of which sends most self described article marketers into a state of irate psychosis and search engine flagellation. Panda is the latest in a long line of Google implementations in an effort to tidy up the content that is shown in their search results.
Why did they need to do it?
If readers get a good search result and find informative sites that help them out, they smile and Google likes their clients to smile. But if readers continually get sent to sites that are sub standard or which are intent on selling them something then they do not smile, they go searching for better results on other search engines. This means that Google starts to lose both respect and money, something that they have to address very quickly.
So we have Google quite rightly making every effort to stamp out the practice of sub standard articles being distributed through automated article submission services purely to influence the search engine result. This is a process which has been dubbed article marketing, but which is actually article spamming.
But the Panda updates have also affected the receivers and publishers of these spam articles.
It seems that every week we get emails from free article directories saying that their doors are closing. Ironically these are the same directories that were set up to get an income off the Adsense ads that they displayed around the articles that were submitted. Article directories promoted your article purely so that people would see the ads around it and click on them and it is ironic that in the end no-one won, not the article author or the directory.
So after nearly a year of Google hammering article directories and authors using these article marketing techniques what do we have left?
The Truth In Real Article Marketing
While the article marketers in the previous category are wailing on their forums and threatening an 'Occupy Google' style email attack, real article marketers using proven, tested and search engine sanctioned article submission services and article marketing techniques are relaxed behind their keyboards, oblivious to the furore happening throughout cyberspace.
?These are the guys and gals who are constantly updating their sites with fresh content and good information, who are making their articles available to article directories who do not have adverts competing with their writing and who use tools that will syndicate the article, not use mass article submission techniques. Article syndication is the Google recommended process that the reputable sites like Forbes, MSN and CNN use to deliver their news.
Article syndication is a well known and well respected process which has been around since long before the internet started. It is a perfectly legal way of sharing good information and is the platform upon which true article marketing is based.
Because your article is syndicated properly and is seen as information sharing rather than article submission, there is no such thing as duplicate content. This also means that spinning your content is not necessary and in fact continuing to do so could result in penalties.
Real article marketing also involves using other methods to promote your site and articles. The best way is through social and bookmarking sites and Google is using these more and more as a gauge of which information is good and helpful and which isn't.
So no, article marketing is not dead. For those who use old fashioned bum article marketing techniques and automated article submission services it might be, but for those who understand and use true article marketing techniques the fun is just beginning!
