Similar website domain name

I just recently acquired a new domain. Thanks Rach!

Anyway, I received an email this morning regarding it.

It reads as follows:

Hi,

We noticed that you currently own professionalghostwritingservices.com (correct?).

The domain name ghostwritingservices.com is for sale, which is similar to your domain and may help in driving organic traffic and improving SEO. There are also 260 global searches via Google per month. Not to mention that advertisers are paying $8.95 per click.

We're only asking $200 for this domain. If you are not interested, we understand and apologize for the inconvenience. However, if you would like to acquire it, please let us know for we are connecting with other online businesses and this domain will go to the first who replies.

As this sort of thing is totally foreign to me, I was wondering what you all think.

Now my first thought was, $200 bucks, Dream on! :

But I'm not sure if my first instinct was a wise one. So should I purchase it or not? If so, why?

The avg volume according to the MD Keyword Researcher is 73 a month. The name is not worth $200 even if and I do say if people are paying $8 a click. 73 searches a month you are going to be lucky to see 10 - 15 of those and that is assuming you get top listing on google.

The domain name itself is not even listed in the top 100 on google which tells you it will need much advertising to get it listed on page 1. Is 10 - 15 visitors really worth paying $200 for a domain name, in my personal opinion you could spend $200 on something much more effective.

I get a similar email every month for one of my domains. From the same people. Just ignore it and see if the price doesn't start to drop.

Frankly, you would be better off building traffic to your own domain, I would think.

Especially for $200.

Guys,

You need to understand that domain name values ARE going up. And they will continue to go up. I honestly really DO love EMDs (Exact Match Domains) especially if you're going to be posting content/articles on them.

But, you go out and spend any money on a domain, do some quick research to see the value of the domain name. There are two tools you can use which are free, and they are actually "pretty good" when it comes to domain name values and what the name is "worth". Let's take the domain that you mentioned, GhostWritingServices.com, and take a look at its value:

Epik has it appraised at $9750

And Estibot has it appraised at $3300:

Honestly, I do think it's a steal at only $200. But, you may be able to get it for a lot less than that if you were to backorder the domain or watch it and catch the domain on the drop.

They estimate a domain value based on many things that really have nothing to do with the actual domain name making any income. For example the so-called searches every month, let's a take a closer look.

Each one of these keywords are listed at 1,300 searches a month

copywriting services

Guess what ? They do not get 1,300 searches a month. The 1,300 volume is calculated by all the semantics and related keywords. All the keywords together get an avg of 1,300 searches and not each one.

The alexa traffic is a joke, anyone and I do mean anyone can inflate that. It does not in any way measure the actual traffic to a site because it does not have direct access to the server logs.

Unless the domain name is currently making an income, it is worth the registration and nothing more. Now at the same time it is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. In my personal opinion I would suggest Terra keep her money and put it into the domain name she already has in the form of advertising.

professionalghostwritingservices.net (have not checked) would be worth more to Terra than that $200 domain name.

'business. com, women.com, pets.com, etc, etc are worth big bucks. After one word commercially viable domains, the main worth is in it's promotion, not the name itself. Think about 'Adobe.com'... The name has the meaning of houses built with donkey dung, yet it is a PR9 and an Alexa of 65. MOSTLY due to every website that incorporated a PDF had/has a link to them for a free download of Reader. (Usually with the anchor text of 'click here'.. go ahead, Google it.

If YogiThePug.com can get to page one with 'pug doll' then anyone can! Especially with the page tile of 'page title'. Lol.
