- MY STORY
You know how some people say they're
a "born entrepreneur", a "serial entrepreneur"
or something else that makes it sound
as if starting a business was the special
gift they got at birth and they were destined
to share it with the world?
I ain't any o' that.
Sure I had a paper route when I was 12
years old and dabbled in many things after
that, but entrepreneurial blood coursing
through my veins guiding me to the heights
of business success?
I think not.
I didn't have a lot growing up. I will not say
I was poor, because I think that would be an
insult to people who really are struggling just
to get enough to eat every day. I always had
a roof over my head and food in my belly. And
enough toys. Poor I was not.
Which isn't to say I had everything I wanted.
Far from it.
I wore only hand me down clothes and I heard
"We can't afford it" often while I was growing up.
It's one of the reasons I'm going to reach a point
of having tons of money. It's a lifelong outlook for
me. And I'm finally on my way.
I joined the Army on the delayed entry program
during the summer of my Junior year in high
school. I left home 3 weeks after I graduated
and headed off to Basic Training and my own
life. The good news is that I got paid as if I had
actually been active duty for the year I was
in delayed entry. That made a huge difference
in income over the course of my military service.
After about 12 years of that, I decided I could
make a whole lot more money as a civilian. So
I quit the Army and went to truck driving school.
I drove for about 6 years and loved every minute
of it. My wife did not. So she bailed.
It was the worst thing that had ever happened to me.
Interesting side note.
After I found the company I was going to work
for, I told my wife about it. The first thing she
asked me was "What if you don't pass the driving
test?". The second was "What if they don't want
to hire you?".
I had no idea what she was talking about.
Those thoughts had never crossed my mind.
I've never considered what would happen if
I failed at something. I just never think about it.
In fact, it took me well into my 40's before I
realized that other people think about failing
all the time.
That was a real eye-opener!
The reason I finally discovered the fact that
other people worry about failing is because
I decided to become an entrepreneur. And of
course I knew that just like everything else I've
ever done, I'd roll right in and begin to kick ***
and take names.
Boy, was I ever in for a rude awakening.
Nothing EVER works when you're building a business.
And I wasn't prepared for that.
My whole life I've told people I'm like Ferris
Bueller. (great movie - Ferris Bueller's Day Off).
Anyway, everything always worked out for
this kid. No matter how close he got to getting
pinched, things always came out in his favor.
That was me.
Until I decided to become an entrepreneur.
While I was driving is when the entrepreneurial
bug really got into my system. You've heard
the stories of people joining a dozen different
companies, always looking for something that
"works" and draining their bank accounts of
money and their significant others of patience?
Yeah, I did that.
And then some.
I quit driving and got a different job in a futile
attempt to save my marriage. She left 6
weeks after I quit a job I loved for a job I hated.
And I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life.
So I started working out and riding my Harley,
hanging out with a local motorcycle club. Big
cookouts, biker bashes and I was lookin' and
feelin' great. But I still didn't know what I wanted
During that time I took a second job driving a
tow, sometimes picking up fatalities. That sucks.
When things go wrong at over 70 mph
things get ugly quick.
I finally realized that I really ought to be
in business for myself. I had to do
something. My life was going nowhere
and that doesn't feel very good at all.
Especially when you're in your 40's and
you realize you haven't done anything
worth squat in your life.
In your 40's you start to realize that you've
only got so much time.
And it's running out.
The first thing I did was enroll in something
called The Guru Mastermind. Back then, I
hadn't heard the word guru 37 million times.
Sounded interesting. Right before that I'd
come into contact with Mike Dillard. I
bought a lot of his stuff, and I bought T
he Guru Mastermind through his affiliate
link. It was a $5k year long program. Awesome.
I wasn't ready for it.
It was way over my head. I learned a
whole lot, but I had no foundation to set
it on. That was the beginning of my journey.
Yes, the beginning.
C'mon, it's not that long lol :)
Here's where things get a bit dicey.
Because some of the stuff I say here is
gonna go against the grain of what pretty
much everyone out there is saying. If
you've already been programmed with
the Attraction Marketing dogma and you
aren't open to anything else, you should
probably turn back now.

MY Story Pt 2
Early in 2008 I started back on the road to
becoming an entrepreneur. I remember getting
a call from my buddy Vishal one night while
I was at work.
I love working at night. Much more peaceful.
No meetings, hassles with other people or
BS. Just the job and a couple of cool people
to produce with.
I swore on that June night that I would do
anything it takes to learn what I'm required
to know to become a success in my chosen
It's been one helluva ride.
I've spent over $73,279 (that's when I stopped
counting) on courses, events outsourcing and
trips over the past 5+ years.
I've been to Afghanistan and Iraq. And at the
time of this writing, driven a big truck more than
43,317 miles - the second time I've been piloting
an 18 wheeler in my lifetime.
Here are a few of the things I've learned
You don't have to brand yourself
You don't have to create a product
Buying leads is the fastest way to get them
A blog will drain your time, money & energy
Paid traffic is the best for lots of reasons
Attraction Marketing will kill your business
Treat your business like it's your job
An email list is the single most important thing
you need - maybe.
It's probably closer to the truth to say that
having a way to contact boatloads of prospects
who are looking for your solution to their challenge
is the most important asset you'll build.
I'll talk more about all these subjects as our
time together goes on. For right now, I just

It happens a little at a time.
Just like a tree.
You plant the seed, cover it up,
water it and it receives sunshine.
And it grows.
It's invisible at first.
But eventually, you see the results of your efforts.
A tiny shoot appears, pushing through the ground.
Over time it gets taller, sprouts branches and leaves.
Weeks, months and years pass.
